Mahabaleshwar is located in the Satara district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It  is one of the most famous hill stations in Maharashtra. Its exotic greenery, pleasant weather, majestic peaks attract every tourist and compels them to come back again again.

Mahabaleshwar is famous not only for its panoramic viewpoints, waterfalls, charming lakes, mountains, and valleys but also for its sacred temples. Located at a distance of 6 Km from Mahabaleshwar, old Mahabaleshwar is very famous for its ancient temples. One of them is the Panchganga temple. It is like a place of worship for devotees. Thousands of devotees visit this place every year.

Panchganga Temple is a well-known holy temple in old Mahabaleshwar. Koyna, Krishna, Venna, Savitri, and Gayatri are the five rivers that come together at this place. And hence from this concept, the temple was named Panchganga. According to ancient mythology, the deities Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh, Savitri, and Gayatri are said to have been born here in the form of water.

This holy temple was built by King Singhandeo, who was the Yadava ruler of Devgiri in the 13th century. After it was completely renovated and extended during the 16th and 17th centuries by Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chandra Rao More.

It is also considered to be a holy place for Hindus as the river Krishna originates from here. The Krishna River is the fourth-biggest river in terms of water inflows in India, after the Ganga, Godavari, and Brahmaputra. Outside this temple, you will get to see the ruined temples of Rudreshwar and Rudratirtha  which were built by Ahilya Bai Holkar.

How To Reach:

 By Road:

There are two possible ways to reach Mahabaleshwar by road. One can be accessible from Panvel through Mahad and Poladpur and another option is to take the Mumbai-Pune expressway and the highway onwards from Pune to Satara. Otherwise, you can simply refer National highway NH4 to reach Mahabaleshwar. You can also get here by bus. As many buses are plying to Mahabaleshwar from the no. of a district in Maharashtra.

By Train: 

Wathar is the nearest railway station to Mahabaleshwar. It is at a distance of 65 Km away from Mahabaleshwar. From Wathar station up to 10-15 min. of a walking distance, you will get Wathar bus stand, where you can easily get buses to Mahabaleshwar.

Pune railway station is another convenient way to reach Mahabaleshwar. Pune railway station is about 120km away from Mahabaleshwar.

By Air:   

Pune airport is the nearest airport to Mahabaleshwar. Pune airport is situated at a distance of 130 Km away from Mahabaleshwar. Mumbai airport is the second nearest airport to Mahabaleshwar. Mumbai airport is well connected to different parts of the country.
